CC2543: CC2543 + CC2591

Part Number: CC2543
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2591, , CC2544, CC2592, CC2530

Hi,

I would like to ask what would be a good reference circuit design and layout for CC2543 + CC2591? or CC2544 + CC2591?

Thanks!

  • Hi Emerlito,

First, I would highly recommend using the CC2592 instead of the CC2591. The 92 is an updated and improved version of the 91 and is much easier to get to work properly.

That being said, using "high power" devices such as the CC2592 is challenging. Getting the layout right is extremely important to get good RF performance.

I would recommend following the CC2538-CC2592EM reference design for everything related to the CC2592. The CC2543/4 part can be derived from any of the respective reference designs for these devices. The interface between the two chips can be as in the 38-92 design, just a single shunt for potential tuning needs.

    Cheers,
    Fredrik
  • Hi Fredrik,

    Thank you for the recommendation.

The existing benchmarked design is using CC2591 for the frontend and we are changing the transceiver only to CC2543.

My concern is at the transceiver - frontend matching network and the antenna side we will be using external antenna thru SMA connector.

Thus, I am looking for a good reference to be used for CC2543+CC2591 combination. What I am checking now is the CC2530+CC2591 reference design that is already available.

What would be your additional inputs on design as well as in the pcb layout  if I use this reference and change the transceiver to CC2543?

    Thanks!
