LAUNCHXL-CC3235S: Missing transmission power while commanding with Radiotool software

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-CC3235S
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3235S

Hi,

after flashing succeeded, we encountered next issue. Continuous transmission Tx (eg. 5180 MHz, 5 GHz, 6Mbps OFDM, power level: 0 (maximum level)) level measured is around -40 dBm, which is not correct.

We could get this same Tx level also from 2.4 GHz RF line, which indicates that there might be something wrong with firmware? Have we flashed correct files?

Regards,

Jukka

  • Here are the steps for flashing:

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

    - image mode: Production mode

    - I used following MCU image : \TI\CC3xxx_RadioTool_1.0.3.19\Source Files\Source Projects\radiotool_CC3235S_LAUNCHXL_tirtos_ccs\MCU+Image\radiotool_CC3235S_LAUNCHXL_tirtos_ccs.bin

    - I used following service pack : \TI\simplelink_cc32xx_sdk_6_10_00_05\tools\cc32xx_tools\servicepack-cc3x35\sp_4.13.0.2_3.7.0.1_3.1.0.26.bin

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

  • Hi Jukka,

When flashing the board try being in Development mode (See here to understand the difference) and using the following:

    Radio Tool application, as a pre-compiled application binary: C:\ti\CC3xxx_RadioTool_1.0.3.19\Source Files\Precompiled Binaries\radiotool_CC32xxS_LAUNCHXL_tirtos_ccs.bin

If MCU image is needed then try: C:\ti\CC3xxx_RadioTool_1.0.3.18\Device Images\CC3235S image\Programming.sli

The service pack sp_4.13.0.2_3.7.0.1_3.1.0.26.bin is the correct version

Also how are you measuring the transmission?  If using the U.FL connector make sure to do the appropriate modifications explained in section 2.7 RF Connections of the user guide https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/swru539.  For example to measure 2.4Ghz on U.FL connector J2 you must remove C6 (201 sized) and populate C2 (8.2pF). (The BOM file can be found at https://www.ti.com/lit/zip/swrc348)
