Monitor mode - Wikipedia
It is a way to scan for packets without transmitting anything. I am not sure if this is a hardware specific feature or firmware.

If monitor mode means listening to packets that are not specifically sent to you without being connected to the access point, then yes, we do have this option. We call it raw transceiver mode. In this mode you can also transmit data but for your application, you will probably only receive data.
