WL1835MOD: WL18xx PLT Mode Error with R8.9 Firmware and Calibrator Compatibility

Part Number: WL1835MOD
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: WL1835

Tool/software:

Dear Sirs,
We are currently using the WL1835 module on BeagleBone Black (BBB), and have followed the instructions provided in this  TI E2E post regarding the new R8.9 release.

We have:
.Downloaded the firmware from the wl18xx_fw FIPS branch, which includes version 8.9.1.0.2_fips.
.Updated the driver according to the build-utilites R8.9 branch.
.Verified that both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth basic functionalities are working correctly.

Load firmware 8.9.1.0.2 flips

However, when attempting to enter PLT mode using the calibrator tool from 18xx-ti-utils, we encounter an error and cannot proceed with production line testing.

PLT mode err msg

We would like to clarify the following:
1.Is this issue caused by a mismatch between the calibrator version and the new FIPS firmware?
2.Is there an updated version of the calibrator tool that supports firmware 8.9.1.0.2_fips?
3.Is there a PLT-compatible .bin firmware image available for download or testing?
Any guidance or updated resources would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,

  • Hello sywang,

As I recall this issue being reported before, I believe we had to disable calibrator tool with the FIPS firmware, so it is not possible. However, the FIPS version is the same RF performance as the non-FIPS version. So I would recommend to use the non-FIPS firmware for calibrator tool and testing, then switch to the FIPS version for your production/application usecase.
