CC3100: publish server to the internet

Part Number: CC3100

Greetings,

I want to use my CC3100 as a public webserver that I can access through the internet (i.e.: get a public address that I can visit using any browser).

Does CC3100 support this? and is there any examples or documents to help?

Regards,

  • Hi James,

Assuming that you have a CC3100 functioning as local webserver where you can run one of the http server examples and connect to it with a client on your LAN, there is no reason why you wouldn't be able to use your CC3100 as a public webserver. There are a couple steps you would have to do to get your CC3100 accessible on the internet:

    1. Setup your wifi router so that your CC3100 is given a static IP, and then forward port 80 and port 443 to your CC3100's static IP. You will have to look up a guide for your specific router for instructions on how to do this step.
    2. Setup some sort of dynamic DNS on your router so that you can link a domain name to your public IP address, assuming your ISP gives you a dynamic IP. If you get a static IP address from your ISP, you can skip this step. There are a whole host of different dynamic DNS providers, and your router will probably support a certain set of those.

While there is no CC3100 specific guide for making your device accessible on the internet, the steps I outlined above are applicable to any HTTP server hosted on your PC, phone, etc. There are many guides online that take you through the specifics of how to get your HTTP server accessible from the internet that I suggest you look up.

    Regards,
