CC3220MODA: Programing CC3220MOD SPI Flash Memory interface, Files From Examples?

Part Number: CC3220MODA
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3220MOD, , CC3220SF, UNIFLASH

We have several prototype PCAssemblies with a CC3220MODA but with out connections to the UART. So except for to boards where we cut into the edge of the PCB of the CC3220MOD to get some fine wires on pins 46 and 47,  we cannot use the UART method to load code and put the prototypes into Development Mode.

I have read the Production Line Guide (http://www.ti.com/lit/swra568) and understand that the CC3220MODA can be programed by loading the SPI Flash memory with an image. The image is started at location 0 in memory.   The Production Line Guide refers to a file as "Programing.bin" or "Programming.hex"  and "depending on the SPI programmer."

This leaves me with questions. Are the .BIN files in the Simplelink examples folders for:  "Gang" programmers? Is for example the file: "C:\ti\simplelink_cc32xx_sdk_2_20_00_10\examples\rtos\CC3220SF_LAUNCHXL\demos\serial_wifi\freertos\ccs\serial_wifi.bin" such a suitable file?

The UniFlash GUI seams to indicate that it can make .BIN files for gang programing.  And if so will it have the rest of the files (boot loaders?) making up a file to be uploaded into the file system?

  • Hi Forrest,

The .bin files in the SimpleLink examples folder are not suitable for gang programming. The UniFlash GUI, as you said, is able to make suitable .bin files and you should be able to just use the created .bin file for gang programming.

The line you quoted from Production Line Guide is referring to the fact that depending on which SPI programmer you decide to use, it will require a .bin or a .hex file.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can clarify!

    Best regards,
    Kristen
  • Thanks for the explanation. I have saved .BIN and .HEX from Uniflash from the recent project I had saved with which I had done the UART load. So I hope it will be just as successful.

    My question was answered.
