LAUNCHXL-CC1352P: Development board programmer burn out.

Have you seen multiple failures of the same device on different boards (LPs)?

No, I haven't. When the development board programmer burned out, I changed it for a new LP/debug probe and I was able to continue programming without any problem. However, after programming around 400 more devices, the problem occurred again.

Hi,

The energy trace section is common to several versions of LaunchPads and there has been no other issues of this reported previously.

Can you share an image of the connection between the LaunchPad and the custom board? Could you also show us the section of the schematic that contains the programming pins in your design?

Hi Jan,

I attach an image with the connections between the “LAUNCHXL-CC1352P-2” and my custom board. I also attach a schematic of the zigbee interface that I have implemented in my custom board. This schematic  shows how the programming signals get into the CP2652P microcontroller. 

To program my custom board I first connect it with the “LAUNCHXL-CC1352P-2” without connecting them to the power supply. After that, I connect the “LAUNCHXL-CC1352P-2” to the PC. Finally I connect my custom board to the power supply.

It could look like you have this jumper in the in correct position:

since you have not connected any power from your custom board to the debugger.

Actually when I programmed all my custom boards I had the P10 jumper connected between pins 1 and 2 (I know in the “Conections between boards” picture the jumper is connected between pins 2 and 3, but it was a mistake).  

After reading your comment, I changed the position of the jumper (connecting it between pins 2 and 3). However, when I tried to program my custom board, the programming interface (“Flash Programmer 2”) did not recognize the MCU. Do I have to make any other additional connections when I connect the jumper between pins 2 and 3?

Ok, the jumper between 1 and 2 makes sense. Any other deviations from the picture you posted and how you use the board? 

If you have issues with U9 this indicate that some of the IOs on this part gets higher voltage in than 3.3 V causing overvoltage. Have you probed all pins on the DUT side when you do the programming (including power) to verify that all voltages ar 3.3 V or lower? 

No, there is not any other derivation from the picture I posted.

Sorry, but I don’t understand what you mean with pins on the DUT side.

Here, the DUT is the board you try to flash. Probe the voltage level on all lines going to the board.

The board has some ESD protection on these pins but do you do the programming in a ESD controlled environment to ensure that you don't get any over voltage? 

Yes, I do the programming in a ESD controlled environment.

I want to know which are the correct connections that I have to make between the “LAUNCHXL-CC1352P-2” and my custom board to program it with an external supply (including the correct positions of all the jumpers).

After reading that example and the comments above I came to the conclusion that in order to correctly program my custom board with the “LAUNCHXL-CC1352P-2” using an external power supply I have to connect the P10 jumper between pins 2 and 3 and provide 3,3V from my custom board to the debugger. Also, I have to connect  the TMSC, TCKC, RST and GND pins between both boards.

Do you think any other connection is necessary or is it OK?

On the other hand, in order to correctly program my custom board with the “XDS110 debug probe” with an external power supply I have to connect the TMSC, TCKC, RST, 3.3V and GND pins between both boards.

Do you think any other connection is necessary or is it also OK?
