CC2652P: which ic should I use for thread repeater application?

Hi Expert,

My customer's application is wifi router + thread repeater. I think that NCP can maintain thread connection when wifi soc goes to sleep mode.

CC2652P7 can do NCP. Is it recommended? Or suggestion using CC2674P10? reason?

Hi Frank,

The CC2652P7 is fine if only a Thread NCP role is needed, with no larger application expansion requirements. The CC2674P10 comes with more flash and RAM, but at a greater cost. Both devices are supported in the TI OpenThread Github.

Ryan,

From the build result, there is only ot-ncp-mtd and ot-ncp-ftd, not for ncp only.

the ram size for both result is close to 152KB max RAM size of CC2652P7.

If customer needs larger ram size, they should choose CC2674P10.

My understanding is correct?

MTD: Minimal Thread Device

FTD: Full Thread Device

The FreeRTOS heap size is configurable to allow for more application usage or otherwise. This is how the CC1352P1 / CC2652P1 are able to build a ot-ncp-mtd.out image with only 81 kB of RAM usage.
