LAUNCHXL-CC26X2R1: Power consumption issue on new SDK of 2.40 and chip of Revision E

Hi TI team,

We used the original example code of zed_sw in the SDK 2.40 and the LAUNCHPAD of CC2652 with the new chip of Revision E.

And we used the power meters to test the power consumption of LAUNCHPAD of CC2652. But we found the result was 2mA in idle that means that the LAUNCHPAD of CC2652 did not deal with anythings.

Could you help us to check this issue because 2mA is too high for us in idle?

Do you remove the jumpers on LAUNCHXL-CC26X2R1 when you measure power consumption?

Hi YK,
Yes, we removed the jumpers between XDS110 and CC2652(Revision E). And we directly provide the power to LAUNCHPAD of CC2652 chip with power supply(3V).

Do you also remove the jumpers of LEDs?

Hi YK,
I did not remove the jumpers of LEDS but I did not light up LEDs. I think it should not affect the power consumption.

I don't have rev.E LAUNCHXL-CC26X2R1 to test this but I can see similar issue when I test rev.E CC1352P LaunchPad.

Hi,

Can you try joining the ZED to a network and then measuring the current?

Toby I tested zed_sw in the SDK 2.40 on CC1352P rev.E chip again and I can see the same issue as Lawrence reported. Can you test and check this from you side?

Hi Toby,
According to my testing, the power consumption is normal if my ZED join a network.
But if ZED do not join a network, the power consumption is too high for us.
I think the power consumption should be normal even if I do not join a network.
Could you help us to check it?

By the way, I also tested power consumption on the old SDK(2.30) with old chip of CC2652 LaunchPad(Revision C).
And the power consumption is normal whether ZED join a network or not.

Hi Toby,
In my test
1. program ZED --> ZED power cycle --> current : 1.8mA --> press BTN-1(bdb_steering) but does not join network --> current : 50~60uA --> ZED power cycle --> current : 1.8mA
2. program ZED --> ZED power cycle --> current : 1.8mA --> press BTN-1(bdb_steering) join network --> current : 50~60uA --> ZC turn off --> ZED power cycle --> current : 50~60uA
3. program ZED --> ZED power cycle --> current : 1.8mA --> join network --> current : 50~60uA --> ZED factory reset --> ZED power cycle --> current : 1.8mA
4. program ZED --> ZED power cycle --> current : 1.8mA --> press BTN-2(on/off toggle) --> current : 1.8mA

This issue appears very similar to a thread we've solved in the past: e2e.ti.com/.../712780

No doubt that changing from ICall to OSALPort has caused the issue to reappear as the OSAL initialization procedure has changed. I've asked the SW development team to further investigate and provide a solution when possible.

Hi Lawrence,

I've confirmed that this issue has been resolved for the 3.10 SDK which will release in a few weeks. For future reference, known and fixed issues are always stated in the SDK release notes.
