How to control the output volume to speaker form TPA3111D1?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA3111D1

Hi,

        I am using Tpa3111d1 for driving a 4ohm speaker.

I want to control the output volume to the speaker from no output to maximum output. Right now I am using a pots at the input of the amplifier to suppress the audio input to the amplifier.

But even on using a pots of 1M ohm, output is still coming and speaker is driven.

I have kept the gain as 20dB and Plimit is very low (approx. 0V). Also the schematic is similar to the one given Evaluation board for Tpa3111d1.

Please suggest on how to achieve the same.

Regards

Abhijit

  • Hi, Abhijit

The feedback resistor is 600kohm, so 1Mohm resistor is not enough to attenuate the input to mute state. You need to select a proper pots for this application.

  • Hi Peter,

                          Thanks for the input.

But I observed one thing that when the gain is increased then, then I am able to achieve the mute state with 1M ohms pot, but the sound quality is poor.

As I mentioned earlier that the PLIMIT has been minimized(15mv approx.), does it have any role to play in it?

Also by proper pots value you mean higher pot value?

    Abhijit

  • Hi, Abhijit

Plimit is used to limit output power, I do not think is proper to mute the amplifier with this function. The Plimit circuit is not a high accuracy circuit.

Yes, you can try a higher pot value.
