TAS5754MDCAEVM: Hubrid flow won't load on PurePath Console

Part Number: TAS5754MDCAEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5754M

Hi all,

I am facing some issues with the TAS5754MDCAEVM board and the PurePath Console.

I am connecting through the USB port and I manage to open the PurePath Console successfully.

However, when I try to load one of the Hybridflows then PurePath Console gets stuck in this state:

any idea why this is?

thanks,

Dimitris

  • Hi, Dimitris,

This appears to be a software problem as it appears the TAS5754MDCAEVM is communicating properly. Have you tried running the software as administrator?. Also, have you verified the proper operation of the EVM without selecting an HybridFlow by streaming audio and changing volume or muting the outputs?.

    Thanks and Best Regards,

  • Hi Diego,

    thank you for your reply.

I have tried running the PurePath Console in Administrator mode with no success. Also have tried to different EVMs with no success.

Could you hint where I should start off debugging the HW? There are many components on this PCB. Do you reckon I should check the TAS5754 is under normal operating conditions? Any other component that you think it is critical?

I am using a 10V power supply to drive the PCB. That sould be enough according to the 4.5V - 26.4V power supply input requirement described in the TAS5754M datasheet page 9. Is that correct?

    thanks again for your help.

  • Hi, Dimitris,

Thanks for the feedback. First of all I would recommend to try playing some audio with the amplifier. This device is able to stream audio without any configuration once power supplies are stable and I²S signals are provided. So, in order to verify if the amplifier is communicating properly, please connect the EVM and run PurePath Console. Then, play audio through the PPCMB and change the volume in the GUI. Do not select any HybridFlow. If volume changes, then the amplifier is communicating properly. If this is the case, the problem might be in the software, so I would recommend reinstalling it. In the picture you attached, I can see that PPCMB is being detected as expected, this makes me think that the issue is more related to the GUI.

  • Hi Diego,

thanks a lot for this initial guide. However, I believe that your very first guess for the user privileges on that computer might have been right.

I installed the PurePath Console on another machine and I was able to load the flow successfully. Something seems to be wrong with the first machine I tried it on.

thanks again for all the help.

  • Hi Diego,

yes, I have a couple more questions.

It seems that I am connected to the EVM and that I can load the Hybrid flows on PPC2 successfully.

I am feeding the EVM with USB audio and I can listen to the HP out successfully.

However, when I am making changes in the Audio Processing part they do not seem to reflect on the output. I am changing the filters but nothing is changing really. Shouldn't I be able to monitor those changes real time?

Furthermore, I am seeing that the Hybrid Flows host the same audio processing for left and right channel (I only see one I2S line going through the processing blocks).

I was also wondering if I could have different processing for the two I2S channels so I can add make a crossover and host a woofer and a tweeter with one TAS5754. Is that possible?

  • Hi, Dimitris,

You can make real-time changes while tuning the amplifier after the The HybridFlow is running in the amplifier. To make this, you should click in the green arrow on the upper right corner of the GUI.

The TAS5754M features several HybridFlows used for different applications, I would recommend you to check the slau577a App note for more information about HybridFlow processing.

  • Hi Diego,

thanks for the feedback. I am doing exactly that, pressing the click arrow and it turns into a red record-like button.

But still changes in the audio processing field do not reflect in the output. Music streams through ok, and when I am changing the audio input source it works. But the volume controls do not work and the audio processing blocks seem not to either. I am monitoring the headphone output. Could that be the reason? Is the headphone out just a pass-through?

    thanks again,

    Dimitris

  • Hi, Dimitris,

The headphone output of the PPCMB is used for the evaluation of other features not related to the TAS5754M, all the tuning made in PPC2 of TAS5754M Hybrid Flow is reflected in the amplifier's output only. You should connect a speaker to the EVM output to monitor the changes made to the TAS5754M processing.

  • Hi Diego,

Understood. I will give it a try with a speaker.

    Thanks for all the help.
