Read/Write OTP with PGA400 EVM in OWI mode

Hi,

I'm using the PGA400 EVM board with TPIC83R00 BENCH EVM GUI 2.03 and just tried to access the OTP memory using the OWI interface.

Connections to TEST, ESFR, EEPROM and IRAM work as expected, but when I try to read (or program) the OTP memory I have no success. Is there any workaround for this, as it seems to be a  software bug perhaps on the TI-GER board ? I know, that I could use SPI or I2C from the GUI, which are working correctly indeed, but I have to use OWI for some other reason.

Any help appreciated !

Jürgen

  • Juergen,

So you're able to use OWI to read/write to the TEST, ESFR, EEPROM, and IRAM registers, but are unable to write to OTP?  I'll test this in the lab to make sure it works on my set-up.

Are you using the OWI tab to start OWI communication?

    Thanks,

    -Clancy

  • Hi Clancy,

yes, I've tried all possibilities to influence the OWI behaviour, but reading OTP returns 0x00 in any case and for every address. Programming the OTP didn't change anything too.

Maybe you can find out something in your set-up.

    Regards,

    Jürgen

  • Hi Clancy,

is there anything new about this topic ?

I'm asking because we want to program our first hardware samples using the OWI protocol over a wired connection to the PGA400 EVM - and if that doesn't work we'll have to think about a redesign asap.

    Thanks,

    Jürgen

  • Jurgen,

I have the same issue with my set-up.  However, it looks like this is a GUI problem.  The option to read/write to OTP with OWI was not implemented.  I'm still working on fixing the GUI.

Have you only tried this using our GUI or have you built your own system?

  • Hi Clancy,

thanks for clarification. We haven't implemented an own programming set-up for a series of 100 B-samples, and our planned calibration set-up will not be ready in the next two months, so our intention was to use the EVM board and connect it with two or three wires with our target device and use it's programming feature to program the soldered chips in-place.

Glad to hear that You'll fix the GUI.

    Thanks and regards,

    Jürgen

  • Hi Clancy,

is there any progress to mention ? Nevertheless, I believe I have made an error in thinking I could use OWI for OTP programming. An empty chip with DI_CTRL=0 is only open for SPI-communication, every attempt to switch to OWI requires custom software on the chip.

So, programming functionality via OWI is still missing with the Eval-Board, but it's no longer critical for me.

    Thanks for your support,

    Jürgen

  • Jurgen,

Thanks for the update. I'm glad to hear that it's not critical; however, we'll need to get that straightened out in the datasheet if that's true. I'll work on verifying OWI programming before trying to fix the GUI.

    Thanks,

    -Clancy
