VCA8500: Cascaded chips for higher gain

Part Number: VCA8500
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: VCA5807, PGA5807

Hi

I'm designing an NDT ultrasound Phased array. For my project I need 80dB of analog controlled gain. To do this I would like to connect two VCA8500 cascaded.

My problem is to connect the differential output of the first VCA8500 to the single ended input of the second. In the data sheet you write that the LNA is fully differential but it's optimized for single ended operation. What does it precisely means? Can I use both the input and connect the LNA to differential signals? And if not what is the problem. I don't want to connect half of the output to the single ended input because in this case I lost 6dB in gain and I lost also the rejection of the common mode noise.

Best regards

Andrea
