Hi, I am interested in learning FOC control of a DC brushless motor. Should I use the launch-F28027F-BOOST-DRV8301 kit? Is there a more suitable eval kit out there?

Hi Lejun,

www.ti.com/.../DRV8301-HC-C2-KIT is our most powerful and versatile kit and should be enough for most low voltage BLDC motor. And also you can always size down the design by simply change the MOSFETs.

As you mentioned, The boosterpack www.ti.com/.../BOOSTXL-DRV8301 along with the C28027F launch pad is also a very good and compact option. I think this is the best choice now.

Also, for the possible further algorithm questions, you can find support in C2000 forum.

Why is the booster pack only rated to 10A cont current, is it due to heat?

the FETs themselves are rated to much higher currents.

Correct, the 10A is a thermal dissapation limit of the PCB.
