DRV10975: How the DRV10975(null) judges to operate in switching regulator (buck) mode or linear regulator mode

Guru 19775 points
Part Number: DRV10975

Hi Team,

From the datasheet description, I believe DRV10975(null) can operate in either switching regulator (buck) mode or linear regulator to generate VREG.

My question is, How does the device decides to operate in switcher mode or Linear mode ?

It seems there is not pin or register setting to set this operation mode.

Best Regards,
Kawai

  • Hello Kawai,

You are right that there is not a pin or register that determines whether the device operates in the buck or linear mode. The components (inductor vs. resistor) will determine which mode the device will operate in automatically. To be more specific, only a 47µH inductor will put the device into buck mode and only a 39 ohm resistor will put the device in linear mode.

  • Hi Cole-san,

Thanks for the information. I understood that the device has smart circuit which makes correct decision operating between buck or linear mode.
