TIDA-00151: ADAS Ultrasonic Test System

Part Number: TIDA-00151
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PGA460-Q1, PGA460

Hi,

I need to test the ultrasonic with related to distance. Like i need to simulate the distance in ultrasonic for ADAS. How it will provide the requirement for ADAS ultrasonic test system. how can I test Blindspot and parking assistance with ultrasonic?

  • Hi Vignesh,

As noted in my other reply ( e2e.ti.com/.../2608870 ), I recommend that you consider the PGA460-Q1, which will output a time-of-flight measurement of the ultrasonic echo to the master. The master will be required to convert the time-of-flight value into a distance equivalent. This conversion is typically handled by the equation:
    speed_of_sound * TOF / 2 = distance
    where
    • speed_of_sound is typically 343m/s at room temperature
    • TOF is the round-trip time-of-flight that the echo traveled (typically on the order of milliseconds)
    • the TOF halved to yield the one-way distance equivalent to the targeted object

To see a demonstration of the PGA460-Q1 detecting an ISO-pole, watch the PGA460-Q1 EVM video training series at:
    training.ti.com/ultrasonic-sensing-pga460-q1

This video series will help you understand how the PGA460-Q1 is applied and operated for ADAS park assist and blind-spot testing.
  • Thanks Akeem,

But I need to simulate the target. TOF is sensing physical object distance. I'm trying to simulate the object by giving distance. My Objective is to create the test system for Ultrasonic related to distance like I already have the distance, need to simulate with that. any receiver will do that target simulator.

  • Hi Vignesh,
Unfortunately, we do not offer an ultrasonic sensing / target simulator. You may be able to construct your own simulator based on the target's radar cross section, and the transducer's transmitted sound pressure level and receiver's sensitivity. These concepts are introduced in the "PGA460 Ultrasonic Module Hardware and Software Optimization" app note ( www.ti.com/.../slaa732 ).
