TLV320AIC3254: Power with 1.8V rail and 3.3V for I/O

Part Number: TLV320AIC3254

Dear community,

after several designs using the TLV320AIC3254 with a single 3.3V rail and the internal LDO, I have now a new design, where the power consumption (in sleep mode) is a big concern.

In my project, the TLV320AIC3254 is connected via I2S to a 3.3V system. For this reason I plan to use a 1.8V rail in conjunction with a 3.3V rail only for the IOVDD.

So I will have:

IOVDD 3.3V

DVDD  1.8V

AVDD 1.8V

LDOIN 1.8V

Is this solution practicable? In order to minimize the power consumption (to less than 1.5 uA as said in 2.9.1.2.2 of SLAA557) have I to externally disable the 3.3V IOVDD at pin 6 when I set the codec in sleep mode or by the settings described in 2.9.1.2.2 of SLAA557 are enough to achieve the low consumption?

  • Hi, Peregrinus,

The solution you are proposing is acceptable. It should not be required to disable IOVDD to get the part into Sleep mode, in general the consumption of IOVDD can be considered negligible.
