Compiler/MSC1211Y5: Where to find compiler for MSC1211 using CCS Version 6.1.3.00033

Tool/software: TI C/C++ Compiler

I have CCS Version 6.1.3.00033 and I'm trying to build a project for an MSC1211 (8051 core). It's not an option on the list of processors under New CCS Project.

I have been using the C2000 processors in the past. Do I have to load a new set of support? I'm not familiar with how to do this.

Hi Lloyd,

The MSC1211 and its sister parts were never ported to Code Composer Studio. Can I ask what sort of application you are contemplating using this device with? You might find this document helpful as well: www.ti.com/.../sbau101a.pdf

Tom,

Thanks for the reply. It's a legacy thing - old product, old code, old compiler doesn't run on Win7, need to add a new feature. What do you recommend for a compiler for the MSC1211?

Hi Lloyd,

Supporting legacy products can be difficult. I still have an XP machine at home just for these types of situations. Keil or Raisonance (RIDE) are the commercial compilers that I'm aware of that still support the MSC products. I personally have used Raisonance more than the Keil.

Thanks. I heard about SDCC which is free and seems to have an active user base. Maybe I'll start with that. Thanks again,

Hi Lloyd,

Yes, the SDCC is another option which I thought about suggesting, but I have never gone that route myself. Open source projects are very useful, but can be hard to maintain and operate from a user's perspective. As I have not used it I'm a bit reluctant to suggest it without trying it myself.
