TLV320AIC3204: Latency information

Part Number: TLV320AIC3204

Team, my customer would like to know:

TLV320AIC3204 - do any latency figures exist? We are interested in minimizing the latency. We know we may have to sacrifice some quality but do any figures exist showing latency under various conditions?

Thanks

Viktorija

  • Hi, Viktorija,

Basically, the latency on the TLV320AIC3204 depends of the sampling frequency to use and the selected signal path.

All the latency time is in terms of 1/fs. Some of the blocks involved with the latency are described below:

    - Decimation filters. The decimation filter to choose is determined by the ADC processing blocks. There are three kinds of Decimation filters: A, B and C. Decimation filter A adds a delay time of 17/fs and Decimation filters B and C add a delay time of 11/fs.
    - Interpolation filters. Similarly than the decimation filters, the interpolation filters depend of the DAC processing blocks. There are also three kinds of Interpolation filters. Interpolation filter A takes 21/fs of delay time. Interpolation filter B takes 18/fs. Interpolation filter C takes 13/fs.

If the ADCs or DACs are used in the signal paths, you must consider this additional latency. Additionally, you would need to select the best filter according to your needs.

Please let me know if you have additional questions or comments.

    Best regards,
    Luis Fernando Rodríguez S.
  • Luis,

Thank you for the details. Customer understands, but what he would like to see is a table of example configurations and resulting latency.  Would someone in the product group already have this information?

    Thanks

    Viktorija

  • I think Luis' reply is OK and tells me exactly what the delay would be in terms of fs which is totally my choice to make better or worse. Thanks to you both, Ron.
