PCM3168A: PCM3168A ,TDM format,no normal sound back

Part Number: PCM3168A

Hi TI Experts,

Now I am using PCM3168A in TDM format, but their is no normal  sound back

I want to know the I2C configuration of TDM format~

Hope you know what I want to express, and looking forward to your reply~

Thank you very much~

  • Hi, Fawn,

The device audio serial mode select is done by configuring the Audio serial interface format setting of both DAC Control 1 and ADC Control 1 registers. Basically, for a 24-bit I²S TDM mode, you need to configure the following registers as below:

    • Register 65: 0x06
    • Register 81: 0x06

  • Hi Diego,

It looks like that PCM3168A can work normally without any IIC command.

The default value showed by register map means PCM3168A can work normally without any IIC command.  Is it right ?

If I want to change audio format from default IIS to TDM during recording and playback , so, it  just change Register 65 and 81 ?

    Best Regards

    Jason

  • Hi, Jason,

Correct, by default the PCM3168A can operate in I²S mode, and to change the mode to TDM, it is only required to select the Audio data format on registers 65 and 81 as previously mentioned..

  • Hi Diego,

We want to use PCM3168A run in TDM/master mode, but there's no sound output when playback. IIS/master mode work normally.

To eliminate interference, we connect the Dout of ADC and the Din of DAC, and set register 65 and 81 to 0x47, make ADC and DAC work in master mode, but LRCKAD and LRCKDA are asynchronous. This strange waveform should be the reason.

I guss, if ADC work in master mode, the DAC must work in slave, then PCM3168A can work normally. Is that right ?

  • Hi,

For any digital audio bus, there could be only a single Master device. If you are planning to use the PCM3168A in Master mode, you should select either the ADC or DAC digital interface as the Master, configuring the other interface as a slave of the same bus.
