DAC3484 EVM output monitoring tool

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC3484

Hi,

I am sending data and clock from my zedboard via FMC to the DAC3484 EVM. Now I am not sure if the data is received by the DAC3484 EVM. Is there any tool to monitor the dac output. Or is there any other approach to see if there is any data going to the DAC EMV?

Thank you very much.

Warm regards,

Serdar

  • Hi Serdar,

The best method to monitor DAC output from the EVM is to use either the spectrum analyzer to monitor frequency domain of the output or the oscilloscope to monitor the time domain of the output. You can generate a simple sine wave from your Zedboard and double check if the same corresponding DAC output have the same sine wave output. Any type of simple scope would be sufficient as long as the frequency that you generated is within the scope bandwidth.

The data and clock to the DAC input are in LVDS format. You may use a differential probe to probe the differential LVDS traces to the DAC. For the DATACLK, there are zero ohm resistor jumpers that you can place your probe on to monitor the DATACLK signal. They are SJP9 and SJP11, respectively for the LVDS differential signal. For the data section, you may need to scrape off the solder masks on the LVDS traces to expose the copper before you can probe the signal.
