I could not change the components'  value. How do you do that? Thanks for the for the FTP link.

From the FilterPro 3 user guide:

"Items in the schematic are either red or blue.

• Red Label: Items in red are not available for editing. These are labels identifying certain aspects of the schematic.

• Blue Label: Items in blue are available for editing. Change the component values by hovering the mouse cursor to the value of the component and clicking it. You should see a box around the number in blue. Enter the value that needs to be changed. "

Make sure you hit the "Enter" key after changing the number so that the value is updated and the other component values in that stage are recalculated.

filterpro 2.0 is no longer on the ftp site.  Any idea where I can get it?

Yes, it appears to have disappeared. I don't have another place to point you to right now, but will look into what happened here, and get back to you.

Any luck finding FilterPro 2?

I finally managed to find the link to the FTP site to download FilterPro v2, but alas it seems to have disappeared.  Is there any hope of getting it back?  I second all the options presented here -- version 2 was really an awesome little tool.

FilterPro 2 is a long time out of circulation. At this time we do not have the capability to send it your way. I would suggest you look at FilterPro 3 (which I think you have) and Filter Architecture (Beta version) in the WEBENCH area on the web. In particular, what is it that FilterPro 2 gave you. I will find out if this is possible with Filter Architecture, as we are in the middle of developing the final version right now.

Hi Bonnie, thanks for your reply.  I managed to get a copy of FilterPro 2 from a friend, so I'm good.  The main thing that FilterPro 2 allowed me to do is quickly tweak any of the component values or the 3 dB point and it would recalculate the others, keeping fixed the components I had nailed down.  It made it very easy to get a working filter based on the limited set of component values I happen to have on hand at any given time.

Any updates on this? I am having similar issues with needing to fix the capacitor values and recalculte the resistor values.

Thanks for you continued interested in TI's Filter programs. We are in the process of migrating from FilterPro3 to Filter Designer. Filter Designer is a combination of TI's FilterPro 3 and Natinal Semiconductor's Active Fitler Designer. You can get to Filter Designer starting at ti.com/webenchfilters . You will find that this program selects the resistors and capacitors as well as points you to a DigiKey part number.

When I hover over a part, I do not get the part properties box as shown in the instructions, mine is just showing a hand as in “pan mode”.  If I could edit those parts and then have web bench reselect the resistors, then this will be great.

You are right about the "hovering" functin. For some reason it has been diabled. However, you can change the resistor and capacitor vendors fairly easily by clicking on "Select Alternate Part" in the BOM below the circuit diagram.

I can select another part, as you say, but not one with a different capacitance value, the possible ones to select from all have the same value.

I agree that the only possible capacitance values are all the same with this feature. if you are interested in changin the capacitances in the circuit I suggest that you us the 'CapSeedValue' feature. You will find this feature on the same page (Filter Desgner Design summary) in the left hand column. Give this a try and see if this works for you.

I did as you said, changing the "CapSeedValue" and that allows me to change all of the C1's in the circuit, so I am close to where I want to be but cannot change the C2's in the circuit. Since these will be 1-2% caps for C1 and C2, I am trying to use the same value of C1's and same value for C2's (all C1's the same, all C2's the same) by tweaking the R's. I am also using the Bessel filter type, which may complicate things.

I am glad that the change of the seed value got you to most of you want to have. At ths point that is all you can do with this software. Filter Designer is not programmed to give like values for ht e caps but you can modifiy the values of resistors. If you do this, it will change the values of capacitors but I don't think that ou will be able to get what you want. Do you want to change all caps in the circuit to be the same?

By the way, I know that you are designing a Bessel, but way else can you tell me. Here is a list of the stuff I need to know.

lowpass, highpass, basndpass, bandstop?

corner or center frequency (fc or fo)?

filter order?

.anything else that is related to your circuit.

Its a lowpass,

FC = 50Hz

5th order, stop band = 250Hz, -46dB at stop frequency

Av =19, and .001dB flatness

Trying to use 10nF for C1's, 4.7nF for C2's, Bessel

I think that's it.

I think you are going to have to live with what we have now with Filter Designer. I will send you inputs into the software team.

Just out of curiosity, is there a reason that you want to do this with the capacitors?

We were trying to get 1%  or 2% tolerance parts, and as it turns out, many values are not available in these tolerances (at least from my limited searches).

Any chance Filterpro 2.0 can be found? Not even sure if would even do this  filter but from the posts, at least you can fix the caps and let it calculate the resistors.

You can program in the tolerances fo you capacitors on the "Filter Designer Design Summary" page along the left column. This section is made in the same place that you did your CapSeedValue work. give this a try. In the program we do give you actual, orderable parts.

How about the old fashioned way? Can I use the cutoff frequency/q factor for the particular filter stage and then back calculate the resistor(s) from that? Can you show me how if so?

Another comment/finding with the web bench filter solution: if you select say 1% for cap tolerance, and let it come up with a solution, the caps selected do not have the tolerance you entered. I selected 1% for the capacitor tolerance and the caps that were selected were 5% or 10%. Maybe you can mention that to the design team as well.
