LMR14050-Q1: Schematic check

Part Number: LMR14050-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS563249, TPS566235, TPS62827, LMR14050, LMR14020

Hello,

Can you please check the below schematic for my design? I would like to ensure it will work for my application. Thanks!

Requirements:

Input Voltage: 5 V

Output Voltage: 1.1 V

Output Voltage Ripple: 25 mVpp

  • Hi Mostafa,

What's input voltage range? what's load current?

TPS563249, TPS566235 and TPS62827 maybe better choice if Vin below 6V.

  • Hi Andy,

Input voltage could go up 12 V in some cases, however for this particular variant of the design we are using 5 V input. Load current is approximately 4 A.

The reason this part was chose is because we have another design utilizing 2x LMR14020 devices, but due to board constrains on this design we needed to find something that was pin-to-pin compatible, and the LMR14050 fit perfectly. Also, this is an automotive application.

  • Hi Mostafa,

    I recommend below changes:

    1. L53=1uH

    2. R67=3.3 ohm

    3. move C169 22uF to output

    4. C172 and C176 are NOT populated

    5. C168, 170, 171 should be rated 16V or higher

  • Hi Andy,

Thank you for your feedback. Just for my reference, can you provide some context on these recommendations? I don't have much power design experience, so this would be helpful for me in the future.
