Hex2000 - setting the number of data items per line of hex output via -olength

Hi all,

I would like to use the hex2000 utility and set/restrict the number of data items per line of hex output.

The default max length is 20h. When calling hex2000 (cgtools 5.2.3) with -h, I get the option -olength to do this (this is not described in spru513c.pdf !!!).

When calling "\cgtools_5_2_3\bin\hex2000 -i -romwidth 16 -olength=10 myfile.out", it runs without problems and produces a single hexfile, but still with max. length of 20h !!

Does the option -olength work? How?

I would really be glad if somebody of the cgtools team could confirm that the "-olength" option is functional (and how) or not....

Sorry, -olength is not functional. It should not be exposed in the help summary.

Thanks for the info. Are there plans to implement it / make it functional in a next cgtools version? In which version?

Can I be sure that in the actual version the max. data byte count is not more than 20h (that is what I observed in my generated files) although the intel hex standard allows up to FFh bytes?

I would like to restrict the buffer length of my loader because of restricted RAM.

There are no plans to make -olength generally available.

The data byte count is very unlikely to change. Even so, that detail is not part of the output specification, and so there is no guarantee it will never change.

You ought to check out the script bootimage.pl from the cg_xml package http://tiexpressdsp.com/index.php/Code_Generation_Tools_XML_Processing_Scripts . It comes with the Perl source code. Thus, you can change it to do whatever you want.

Another choice for controlling hex file line length is srec_cat. This batch file will shorten line lengths to 16 data bytes:

"C:\*path*\srec_cat" -Line_Length 44 %1.hex -Intel -Output %1_16.hex -Intel
