FlexLM setup problems

I followed the directions at http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/License_Server_Administration_for_CCS to install FlexLM.  It gets to the final screen and shows "The installation of FLEXnet Publisher License Server Manager is finished, but some errors occurred.  Please see the installation log for details."  So, first I tried looking for an installation log...but can't find anything that looks like a log file.  One would think that it should either be in the directory that lmadmin-i86_n3-11_9_0_0.exe was run, or in the install directory...but nothing.

I've spent well over 5 hours trying different things, reinstalling, trying to figure what lmtools does, etc.  When I did try out lmtools it showed something about "Xilinx" in one of the status boxes, so that leads me to believe that perhaps Xilinx Vivado is also using FlexLM and that's why the installation failed, because FlexLM is already installed.

I uninstalled FLEXnet Publishing License Server Manager using the Control Panel-Add/Remove and restarted the PC, but when I check the Windows Services (via Task Manager) it sill shows the following two services in the list: "FLEXnet Licensing Service" and "FlexNet Licensing Service 64".  When I look at the properties, it shows that the executables are in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Macrovision Shared\FLEXnet Publisher\FNPLicensingService64.exe.

I uninstalled Xilinx Vivado, checked Windows services but unfortunately the two FlexLM services still appear (though they are stopped).  There is nothing in the Control Panel-Add/Remove Programs that is related to FlexNet

I have started the services (via the Windows Task Manager) and have tried opening a browser with localhost:8080 and 127.0.0.1:8080 and neither give anything back.

I've look on the Internet for ways to uninstall but they all say use Control Panel.

So...

a) any tips on how to get rid of the "other" FLEXnet install.

b) or, how do I use the existing FLEXnet install to also provide licensing for CCS (this is strangely omitted from TI's instructions)  I would think that lmtools can be used to do this but I need instruction on to set up tidspssw this way.

  • Follow-up: spent another 4 hours trying to debug this issue.  Perhaps it is not a conflict with the Xilinx FlexNet install after all.  It appears that the lmadmin service isn't being allowed to run at startup.  I was able to get it started manually by just double-clicking lmadmin.exe and now I can configure it through it's browser interface.

That will at least get me going for now.  Eventually I'll have to figure out why it won't start at startup.  I don't see an entry for it when I use msconfig.  I wonder if our McAfee antivirus software prevented it from being added.  It's funny how the installation of CCS requests that you disable antivirus.  Those of us in the large corporate environment are NEVER allowed to do such a thing.  The only way I was able to install the MSVC++ redistributables was with a bunch of help from our IT people.

  • Having similar issues, I also do have McAfee but disabling didn't change the outcome. Any luck?

  • I also am experiencing this problem and I am not getting any response from TI support.  Anyone know where the "Installation log file" exists or how to proceed?

    Thanks

    Doug

  • Still haven't fixed the issue, but by starting my computer in safe mode (I'm using Windows7) I was able to access the GUI with 127.0.0.1:8080 in my browser. It probably does have something to do with my Antivirus, but unfortunately disabling it isn't an option.

  • I had the same problem, i.e.

-The licensing manager terminating with an ambiguous error message.

    -Browser not showing the gui.

I had java 8 installed and according to the following link it looks like flexnet tools have problems with it.

    http://www2.schneider-electric.com/sites/corporate/en/support/faq/faq_main.page?page=content&country=APS_GLOBAL&lang=en&locale=en_US&id=FA231060

I unistalled java8 and installed java 7 instead. Now everything works.

    -The error message is gone.

-The gui (http://localhost:8080) did not still show in opera at first. But internet explorer worked. Now opera works too. So check them both.

In the installation, I left the default settings untouched for the ones which are not mentioned in http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/License_Server_Administration_for_CCS.

My configuration is windows 8.1, CC6.

    Good luck.
