WEBENCH® Tools/TPS51216: WEBENCH HAS WRONG INPUT VOLTAGE RANGE

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Can someone fix the Voltage input Range of the TPS51216. Right now it only accepts 8 - 28V. The actual input Range is 3 - 28V and I would like to run a simulation on this part.

Hi Brian,

Due to modeling constraints, there was a decision to fix the input range to 8 - 28V for the model to be on the conservative side of duty cycles. I'll delve into this a bit deeper and get back to you soon.

That is very odd. The name of the Vinput pin 12 is V5IN.

Hi Brian,

The V5IN is indeed an input pin but this pin supplies low voltage circuitry that is needed to for example turn on the gate drivers for the output FETS. The input voltage that's using for modeling and thus limited to 8 and up is an external source connected to the drain of the top output driver. At this point, we've decided to keep the model from 8 and up since once it goes below 8 volts, one can get into high duty cycle designs that are not on the conservative side of things which is where WEBENCH tries to stay. Qian Chen might be able to shine some light into this issue.
