DMD used in Barco SLM R12+ Performer

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP9500, DLP6500FLQ, DLP7000, DLP9000

Dear Sir or Madam,

I'm working on a project with an (old) SLM R12+ Performer projector from barco and need some information about it, which the customer service of barco wouldn't tell me and I couldn't find via google and various documents from the TI homepage.

--> which DMD (serial / product number ...) is used in the projector, I just know, it's a 3x0,95'' dmd with 1400x1050 resolution/ pixel array (SXGA+)?

--> what is the exact size of one pixel / micromirror and what ist the exact pixel / mirror pitch?

--> I read, that TI use as material for the optical window in front of the array 2 different materials (corning eagle xg or corning 7056), depending on if it is a type a dmd or not. So what is a "type-a dmd"?

Thank you for your answers.

Best regards

Sören

  • Hello Soren,

DMD = Digital Micromirror Device.  Here is a datasheet for such a device: www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/dlp6500flq.pdf .

ANd there are many discussions on E2E concerning DMD, suych as: https://e2e.ti.com/support/dlp__mems_micro-electro-mechanical_systems/advanced_light_control/f/94/p/487779/2132702 .

Obviously we cannot provide information concerning the barco projector, but you can certainly find much information about DMDs on E2E and the TI.com website.  Good luck in your explorations.

  • Hello Leonard,

    thank you for your answer.

You send me a link to a datasheet of one special type of dmd, but I look for a chip with the resolution 1400x1050 and the array diagonal 0.95'', not for a dmd chip with 0.65'' and another resolution, because I don't think, that all types of dmd have the same size and pixel pitch. Or do I have an error in reasoning?

And until now I didn't find a dmd chip with the resolution and array diagonal mentioned above.

I would be happy, if you have some more informations and / or advices for me.

    Best regards

    Sören

  • Hello, Soren.  The datasheets forTI  DMDs available to the mass market are posted on the DLP Products page.  The cinema and pro-AV markets that Barco serves may use other DMDs, and in that case you would need to communicate again with Barco about what information is available to the public regarding how they use the DMD.

However, you had a couple of more general DMD questions for which I can provide insight.  Regarding the window coating, you can assume DMDs designed for visible light are using the same window coating documented in this tech doc.  Also, there are multiple devices using the package class "Type A".  This is a robust hermetic package with a large thermal pad on the backside.  Other examples of Type A devices you can find online include the DLP7000, DLP6500FLQ, DLP9000, and DLP9500.  Check out their datasheets for mechanical drawings of these Type A packages.   If the device you are looking at is indeed an .95" array, then it may have similar mechanical outline as the DLP9000 or DLP9500.
