Initialization/connection of DLP LightCrafter

Hello, TI and TI E2E Community!

This is Taejun Wang from POSTECH (Biomedical Optics Lab) in South Korea.

The business in my hand in this lab is to compensate/correct an aberration of lens optics (gradient index lens) using patterning of this digital micro-mirror device (DMD).

The DMD product I purchased is LightCrafter module (DLP LightCrafter, DLP 0.3WVGA chipset, 608 x 684 pixel array), watching a videos in TI site, I removed the light engine from DLP LightCrafter for directrly use of micro-mirror pixel arrays .

http://www.ti.com/tool/dlplightcrafter?keyMatch=lightcrafter&tisearch=Search-EN

I tested a system using provided various patterns in LightCrafter Control software (v 5.0.0), I confirmed the change of pattern at micro-mirror pixel arrays.

And then,

I attempted to upgrade a firmware in order (DM365, FPGA, MSP430, and EDID) using “DLP LightCrafter software Bundle v 3.0” file.

I did firmware upgrade in “upgrade/splash” tab in GUI, but FPGA and MSP430 still showed up “XXX.XXX”.

And final pop up window said “Command FAILED” as error message.

After that, anyway,

I couldn’t connect this device using GUI, and it seemed to no longer initialize compared with previous condition.

Current issue on my PC and conditions as followings:

1. Window 7, 32 bit

2. RNDIS driver show up well in device manager

3. Only use of power cable and usb cable

4. When on/off button, every pixel array has on/off event simultaneously

Please let me know how to reset, initialize, and connect this DLP LightCrafter product.

I want to check initializing process of this micro-mirror as it was, and then I want to communicate this product using GUI and Matlab.

Thank you!

Best regards,

Taejun Wang

  • Hi Taejun,

Have you seen the resource below? Please see if this video walk through of upgrading the LightCrafter platform helps you determine the issue with your setup. Please post back and let us know how it goes.

  • Dear Clinton,

    Thank you for your reply.

But, I cannot still connect this device using DLP LightCrafter Control Software - 5.0.0.

In GUI, Firmware Version showed up as followings:
    DM365: 3.31
    FPGA: XXX.XXX
    MSP430 XXX.XXX

I confirmed "Command SUCCESS" message in Upgrade/Splash tab after firmware upgrade in order,
I don't know why "Command FAILED" show up as error message finally.

I really should be used SD card as mentioned video you linked ?

    By the way,
When I turned on/off button, every pixel array is still on/off event simultaneously.
Previously, I saw some change processes (about 3 steps) of DLP pattern when I turned on this device.
In my opinion, this device cannot initialize in every time I turn on.

    I ask your excellent opinion.

    Thank you!

    Best Regards,
