Powering DLP Lightcrafter Evaluation Model on/off without pushing button

Hi,

Is there a way to power on/off the DLP Lightcrafter Evaluation Model without pushing the button? I am working on a project involving compressive sensing and pushing the button moves my Lightcrafter on the order of micrometers. This is a serious problem for me.

If not, would it be safe to just unplug the power cord of the LightCrafter (after properly disconnecting it from my computer) from the wall manually? Thus it would always be on when I have it plugged in and I would never use the on/off button. This would not be a problem for me. I just assumed this would not be good for the LightCrafter.

Thanks,

John

  • John,

To avoid hinge memory, TI recommends that the proper system-power on/off sequence is followed.  Additional information is available on this post.

An extra switch soldered in parallel with SW1 maybe the easiest solution.  It only needs two wires soldered to pins 3 and 4 of SW1 (see schematics below) and this extra switch.  The E-Switch TL3330AF130QG is easily purchased by < $1. These wires can be very thin, flexible and long, so it won't displace/move the Lightcrafter when this extra switch is pressed.

Please note that this requires a small soldering iron, and proper technique. The LightCrafter board may be destroyed if proper technique is not applied.
