DM814x for stereo camera (3D) application...

Hi, I have two cameras. Is any possible to connect two cameras to DM8148 for stereo camera application (3D)?

If one camera interface just only can connect one camera sensor to ISS, how about to use VIN0 and VIN1 (VPSS) to connected two different camera signal following below?

Camera Sensor1 >> ISP Chip >> VIN0 >> DM8148 VPSS

Camera Sensor2 >> ISP Chip >> VIN1 >> DM8148 VPSS

If use VIN this way can be achieved, the VIN0 and VIN1 video frame is can be synchronized or not?

Thank you for your help.

B&R,

Jeffrey

  • Hi,

VIN0 doesnt have ISP(Image Signal processor), you will have to do all signal processing algorithms in processor like Bayer to YUV, H3A etc. Further synchronization can be done if you feed same pixel clock to both VIN0 and VIN1, but in case of frame drops from any of the cameras or VIN0 or VIn1 because of external conditions or any other memory usage spikes etc, software will have to re-synchronize both of them. Overall this may be very complex thing to achieve as most of the onus is on Software. But with fune tuning and experimentation this can be achieved.

  • Dear, Hardik

Many thanks for your answer, that is very helpful for me.

    Thank you.

I have one more question about my signal connection. my ISP chip just can output 8bit YUV422 via 8 bit data bus. (details please following below block diagram)

How about this Video data (8bit YUV422), the VPSS is can support or not?

    Thank you for your help.

    Best Regards,

    Jeffrey

  • Hi,

This is absolutely possible. VIP can take YUV in with sync signals.

  • Thank you for your help, Hardik

    I got it.
