ISOW7842: Shorting the isolated power outputs of two chips together?

Part Number: ISOW7842
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO7742

Hi Expert,

Can I short the isolated power outputs of two chips to have a common isolation? I have RS232/RS485 transceiver that requires 8 I/O's on digital side and 80mA operational current. Two ISOW7842's with shorted power outputs can give me enough current and all necessary signals, sharing the same isolation. I wonder if shorting the power outputs together may affect the performance of integrated DC/DC converters?

Thank you,

Dmitri Chtchvyrkov.

  • Hi Dmitri,

Thank you for your interest in ISOW7842.
Unfortunately, shorting the outputs of two ISOW7842 devices directly is not recommended. If 130mA output of ISOW7842 already meets your output current requirement then you can use ISOW7842 along with ISO7742 to get additional digital isolation channels. This will also be cost effective if your output current requirement is <130mA. Let me know if this meets your requirement, thanks.
