WL1271 broken IP connection over Wi-Fi to iPhone when Bluetooth is activated

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: WL1271, AM3703

Hello all,

I am working on a GPS product using LSR TiWi-R2 combo Bluetooth+Wi-Fi (WL1271) and we are facing an issue interacting with the iPhone in the following conditions :

  • GPS is connected over Wi-Fi to an iPhone used as Network Access Point to get differential corrections over IP. The Bluetooth of the iPhone is OFF.
  • GPS is connected over Bluetooth (simultaneously) to a PDA on which our SW application is running. Profile is SPP (Serial Port Profile).

As soon as we pair the GPS with the PDA over Bluetooth, we lose the Wi-Fi IP connection to the iPhone.
If we start the Wi-Fi Access Point after pairing the GPS with the PDA over Bluetooth, the Wi-Fi connection fails.

If we do the same operation using an Android or a Blackberry phone, we don’t meet any problem and all is working fine.
If we do the same operation using a Windows 7 PC equipped with a Trendnet Bluetooth USB adapter, we can connect the iPhone over Wi-Fi from the PC and simultaneously establish a Bluetooth link from the PC to a PDA.

We suspect something is going wrong around WL1271 (RF or Linux) that makes iPhone Wi-Fi disconnect when Bluetooth appears.

We are using Linux 2.6.37 and Blue-Z stack running on AM3703 TI processor.
Bluetooth firmware is /lib/firmware/TIInit_7.2.31.bts.
Wi-Fi driver is Compat-wireless backport release: compat-wireless-2011-04-26-3-g6542f4c. The Backport is based on wl12xx.git v2.6.35-33527-g1bbadc2.
WL1271 firmware version is Rev 6.1.5.50.69.

Do you have any idea of why Bluetooth from TiWi-R2 (WL1271) interfer with Wi-Fi on iPhone although Bluetooth is OFF on iPhone?
Did you face similar issue with iPhone and WL1271 ?

Best regards.
