Hi all..
My friend's TMS320F28335 docking station is getting heated up whenever it is connected to pc.
When it is connected to pc it also shows an error message :'surge rush current'.
The resistance between vcc and ground is just 1.2ohms.
I checked the same resistance after removing the tms320f28335 control card,it was showing 1.2ohms again. I'm sure that problem is only with docking station.not with control card.
Once accidentally ground pin of f28335 has been connected to different potential. That might be the reason for this.
What can be done for this? Can i repair the docking station myself?
Is warranty applicable for this?If i want to buy a new one, docking station alone is available for sale?
Please answer my queries...
thanks®ards
Mahesh
Hi Mahesh,
For sure your docking station's short circuited. Please check if there's any heat produced by the controller ic on control card. If it heats up too then !?! else u can check for couple of components blown off on docking station. Hope for the later.
Regards,
Gautam
Hi Gautam
Controller card is working fine.it is not getting heated up. Heat is only near the power supply ic of docking station.

Mahesh
Mahesh,
I would suspect damage to U2 on the Docking Station. If you have rework facilities available, I would recommend taking it off and then seeing if a 1.2ohm short is still seen. If not, U2 was your issue and I'd replace it (this shouldn't be too big of a job). If there's still a short, all the other ICs on the docking station are suspect and could be the issue.
I would recommend not plugging the controlCARD into the Docking Station until it is fixed. Instead I would recommend probing between 5V and GND, 3.3V and GND, & 1.8V and GND in order to check for shorts on the cCARD itself. For this, the schematic of the F28335 cCARD may be useful and can be found in controlSUITE.
At this time, we do not sell the Experimenter Kit's Docking Station separately.
Thank you,
Brett
Hello, Brett.
I have a similar problem on one of my custom designed boards. Other two works fine. This one's MCU gets hot very quickly up to 95°C. But it still alive :) TP70351 gets heat up to 65°C. The step-down regulator MP1593 stay at 35°C. The 3v3 and 1v8 looks like is shortcircuted somewhere. They has just 2.5-3.0 Ohm between outputs and also 3.0 Ohm between each and GND. Tomorrow I will try to solder out 70351 and take a look.
What is U2 on the Docking station? I've looked at sprc905 and didn't find the U2.
Hi Anton,
U2 is a 5pin regulator having the nomenclature: PS79533 on docking station. I guess replacing this regulator would be sufficient.

Gautam
Hi Brett,
I have removed the u2 IC,now there is no short circuit.
Does it mean that only U2 got damaged and all other ic's are safe?
Is U2(PS79533) available in market?
regards,
Mahesh
Hi Mahesh,
Yes this means U2's damaged. You can purchase this IC from element14 website. Below is the website:

Gautam,
Thank you. I have another design with dfferent regulators. Problem was in MCU itself. After replace everything started to work fine.
Can i operate Docking Station F28335 with more than 5V let's say 5.1V?
