Is there any isolated module that could isolate chip and xds100?

Dear C2000 team,

I'm trying to use F28034 to spin a motor, but after connected the motor, the emulator(XDS100) can't be worked. I think this may be caused by the noise because XDS100 works normally if disconnected motor.

I see that all most all the TI's control card does implement an isolator that could isolate the signal between F2803x and xds100,I would like to use the similar method to see if it works. Is there any isolated module that could isolate chip and xds100?

Hi Jack,

Did you try with a Ferrite core based USB cable? That is very much helpful.

No, I don't have tried this method. Can you please help share more details on how to use this method?

I followed the guidance from xds wiki page(processors.wiki.ti.com/.../XDS100) that use a USB isolator to isolate emulator and my PC, but it still can't be used.

Hi Jack,

Utilizing a ferrite is one good option.

As you suggested, there are also isolation adapters available, such as the BH-ADP-ISO14 from Blackhawk-DSP:

Hi Brett and Gautam,

I have tried to use external ferrite, but there is no help on getting xds100 works normally. Even I have wrapped ground line to all the communication line, it's still doesn't help either.

Do you have any other idea?

You can try with USB Isolator. Something like this... But I'm not sure how effective this would be:

Yes, I have used a USB isolator that xds100 wiki page recommend as below. But it doesn't help this.

Hi Gautam,

I'm not sure if this is custom board or not. I bought this from internet that xds100 wiki page recommend. The full speed of this USB isolation adapter is 12MHz.

I would suggest you to review the same with a Professional. There seems to be lot of noise propagating all over your control board and hence affecting the JTAG too. I hope your team has referred to one of TI's motor dev kits and hardware guidelines document: www.ti.com/.../spraas1c.pdf
