TX_SDK_V1 ultrasound Tx Evaluation kit broken?

Dear technician,

We bought a TX_SDK_V1 on April 18, 2016. Yesterday, we first plugged in the power supplies and started testing. However, we failed to apply some of the power supplies in sequence as suggested in the user manual. The suggested power up sequence is:

1. Power up VSUB first.

2. Power up +3.3V Digital IO Voltage supply for all of the devices.

3. Power up +1.8V for the Beamformer.

4. Power up ±5V for the T/R Switch.

 5. Power up ±10V for the Pulser’s Level Shifter Voltages. Power up ±50V for the Pulser.

What we did was:

1. Power up VSUB first.

2. Power up ±5V for the T/R Switch.

3. Power up ±50V for the Pulser.

As you can see, we missed some of the power supplies during the powering up procedure.

What we are sure now is that the -5 V port for the T/R switch and +3.3 V port for the Digital IO Voltage supply are short to the GND. We suspect that the T/R switch (LM96530) is broken.

Followings are our request:

1. Would you suggest any other failure on the board?

2. would you provide any methods to test the other components on the board?

3. if you also think LM96530 is broken, can we send the board and ask TI to replace  LM96530, or worst case scenario, to replace the whole Ultrasound Transmit Solution Evaluation Board?

4. would you provide us a quote for 3?

We are looking forward to your reply soon :)

Thank you,

  • Hi Shuai Na,

The power up sequence for the LM96551 on the TX-SDK-V1 is essential, or the chip will get damaged. I think the other devices on the EVM are not affected.

If you can send me the EVM plus fresh LM96551 device (no longer available on ) I can have these replaced on your EVM and then send the reworked EVM back to you. You'd have to do some searching to find the LM96551. Here is a possible source for purchase:
