BQ25120 battery charging not working without buck regulator circuit

Hi TI Team ,

Could you please answer my below query on BQ25120,

Query : Do we need to have the internal buck regulator circuitry (external inductor and capacitor) for battery charging.

In one of our designs if I remove the inductor and Cap used for the buck regulator , battery is not getting charged.

Need your suggestion or inputs.
