BQ25700A: Can the BQ25700A support 8A output current?

Hello. We are looking at the BQ25700A and have a few questions about its operation.

1. Can the BQ25700 support 8A of output current (output of the boost buck stage, not OTG)

2. We are planning on bucking from 5V to 4.5V and will never boost the voltage. Can the BQ25700 operate normally with the boost FET's removed?

3. Will adding something between the BQ25700 and the NiMH battery like a battery gas gauge affect the performance of the BQ25700?

1. Yes. It can support 8A output current.
2. For bq25700A, we have to keep boost FETs. If it is buck only, I would recommend BQ24773.
3. For charging NiMH charger, bq24773 and bq25703A are same because the charging profile is controlled by the host.

One more question. Can the BATDRV signal be manually controlled through the BQ25700?

In most of cases, the BATDRV cannot be manually controlled. Only in HIZ mode, BATFET can be manually turn on or off.

Hi Wang,

Thank you for the quick reply. We just ordered the evaluation kit for further testing. While we wait can I ask a few more questions.

In the case that the LATCH_OFF register is enabled, the input power is no longer available, and there is no more charge in the battery, if input power is available again will the Q1 and Q4 FETs still be disabled?

Does this part have volatile memory?

This part doesn't have volatile memory. Does the battery power available when the input power is no longer available? If yes, some registers will be kept.
If the input power is reset, ChargeCurrent Register; InputCurrent Register; InputVoltage Register; MaxChargeVoltage Register and MinSystemVoltage Register will be reset.
