bq27542-G1 , BQSTudio, Golden Image and Programming

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO, BQ27541-G1, BQ27542-G1

Hello, I'm using BQStudio creating some Golden Image Files, namely srec (*.srec) , bgfs (*.fs) and dffs (*.fs)  Files, now, when I need to program other devices with BQStudio what file should I use ? Do I need to program all 3 files ? or probably only one, which file in this case *.srec, or *.fs ?

Thx for any Help ;-), best regards Enrico

  • Hi Enrico,

When you are ready to start programming your files to other devices, you can just use the .srec file.

Directions to do this in BQ Studio:

    1. Go to the programming tab.

    2. Browse for your .srec file

    3. Press Program, wait until complete,

    4. Press Execute FW twice

    Best,

    Justin

  • Hi Justin,

thx for Your response, I'll do this ;-), btw. I've another question:

in BQ Studio when selecting the new device bq27452-G1 I did not get the Icon "I2C to HDQ" in the Toolbar, it shows when selecting the NRND- device bq27541-G1 ? Right now I've been using the bq27541-G1 *but* want to replace the bq27541-G1 by the newer one bq27542-G1 in future but I must know how to switch the new device to HDQ- Mode at the end ;-),

    Thx in advance, Enrico

  • Hello Enrico,

I have attached a presentation that goes over how to convert the 542 to HDQ using bqStudio.

    Thank you.

  • Hi Fernando,

thx for the Info, I'm sure it will work ;-), but I cannot realize why the I2C->HDQ Button in Toolbar exist's when selecting bg27541-G1 but not when using the recommend bg27542-G1 ? I think it does the same thing, just imagine You have 100 boards to program, entering the whole command sequence for each will last a whole day :-( ... possibly I'm not the only one using the bq27542-G1 in hdq-mode, so I strongly recommend to talk to the creators of bqstudio to enable this feature- it should be done in one day, I'm sure of it ...

Just waiting for the next release of bqstudio, best regards, Enrico

  • Hello Enrico,

I fully understand what you are saying.

The bq27541-G1 and bq27542-G1 although they are similar in functionality, they have different configuration files for bqStudio; this is why the 542 on bqStudio doesn't have the I2C to HDQ plug-in. I have passed along your feedback to the bqStudio team to add the plug-in on the next release.

    Thanks.
  • Hi Justin,

well the srec- files takes really long to program, I think programming the whole firmware is not necessary ( is already done by TI on production ) , so using the *.df.fs - File may be sufficient ? ( probably it contains all the Data from the learning cycle and the cell settings ) I'm I right ?

    Best regards, Enrico

  • Hi Enrico,

You can use the dffs file instead of srec as well, either of these will program the device.

    Best,
    Justin
  • Hi Justin, nice to know ;-), Thank You, Best regards, Enrico
