Hi,
I believe that the order of connecting cells should be from lower cells, 1N -> 1P -> 2P... but then is there a possibility of damage or unexpected firmware operation if we don't follow this order?

Hi Satoshi-san,
That is the recommended order, but if it isn't followed it should cause any damage to the bq40z50-R1 unless the voltage spec for pins are violated. The gauge is shutdown until after the cells are connected and the gauge is awaken by applying a charger or voltage >2.45V across PACK+ and PACK-. When the gauge is in shutdown the FW isn't running.
What battery pack configuration are you planning to use bq40z50-R1? 2S, 3S or 4S?
