Use two UCD92xx : synchronous TMUX ?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCD9246

Hello,

I'd like to use two UCD9246 in a design with two SoC.

I'd like to do the Vin/Iin measurement only once, but if I route the same net (multiplexer output) to both inputs I think that is not gonna work well because the TMUX-0 are not synchronised !

Is there a way to synchronise TMUX signals between devices or to pass Vin and Iin information from one to the other ? If not, I'll go for two multiplexers and it's not a big deal ;)

Best regards,

Thomas

  • If the timing could be synchronized between the two controllers you would be measuring the same value at both devices.
I'd suggest using the Iin capability on just one of the two controllers because the Iin information is not used by the controller to modify the rail operation but is merely available for monitoring purposes, so if you are measuring the overall current into both UCD9246 then do it on one controller.
The other controller's Vin/Iin pin can be hard wired to the Vin input, just set the Iin_Scale_Monitor to 0.00 so that if someone happens to query the Iin value on this device they will not get any crazy values returned.
  • Hi Brad,

Thank you for your answer. You said : "If the timing could be synchronized" -> I was wondering if that was possible :) If yes : how to ? By PMBUS ?

Your second option is good ! But for the price of one more multiplexer I'll have a full interface for each controller and it's great for debug/tunning output filters.

    Bonne journée

    Thomas
  • I do not beleive that it is possible to sync the muxes between two controllers.
