TPS65150: Asking for the TPS65150 EVM fault experiment

Part Number: TPS65150
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65135, TPS65130

Hi Team,
Customer uses TPS65150 EVM and customer only uses VS and VGL.

Vin is 3.3V. VS adjust to 5.7V. VGL adjust to -5.7V.

The VS and VGL voltage is in fault mode while panel reset and initilization.
Pleaes comment why the VS and VGL are in the fault mode.

  • Hello SH,

TPS65150 has a fault pin and if one of the output voltages is not in regulation after the time defined by the capacitor connected to the FLT pin, the IC shuts down. I expect there are 2 reasons for the IC to shut down:

    1. VGH is not able to reach the voltage set by the resistor divider. Because of the reduced Vs voltage, VGH needs to be set the way that it can be reached, e.g. set it to 9V and use the x2 jumper then VGH should work properly.

    2. VGL is not able to reach the voltage set by the resistor divider. If Vs is set to 5.73V, the inverter charge pump for VGL can only reach -Vs+2Vd. Vd is the diode drop which will be around 0.3V, so VGL can only reach around -5V instead of the set -5.74V. If -5.74V is necessary, a inverter doubler charge pump would be needed, see this example:7217.InverterDoublerBAT54S.pdf

Another possibility to check out all output voltages in detail is to disable the fault feature by connecting the FLT pin to VIN.

Maybe your customer should have a look at TPS65130 or TPS65135 which seem to better fit his needs.

    Best regards,
    Brigitte
