TPS65135: maximum output current

Part Number: TPS65135

Hi

Could you let me know how to calculate the maximum output current of TPS65135?

My customer would like to use this device with +-5.9V/100mA output, and the input voltage can be set from 3.3V to 5V.

Thanks.

  • Hello Dongbao,

I think formula 5 in the datasheet can be used to calculate the capability of the IC, but I need to clarify if the switch peak current is limited by Q2.

    Best regards,
    Brigitte
  • Hello Dongbao,

Formula 5 in the datasheet could be used to calculate the capability of the IC. The current limit is given by the switch peak current limit of Q2.

But you could as well check the power capability of the IC which is in the range of 750mW. +/-5.9V/100mA is 1.18W which is too much power for this device.

In general I often observed in the past, that there is a lot of margin on the requirements. You might clarify if 100mA is DC current or short peaks. Short peaks can often be handled by output capacitors.

    Best regards,
