LED Driver

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS92210, TPS92314, TPS92511, UCC28810, TPS92314A19230VEVM

Hello,

I am working on a project to drive 4 led light bars connected in series. Each light bar has typical Forward Voltage of 11.8V and Forward Current of 360mA.

I came across this web link (http://www.ti.com/lit/ml/slvr969/slvr969.pdf) showing a schematic diagram of a “40V 450mA Non-dimmable T8 LED Driver using TPS92210”.

Can the above circuitary be used to run my 4 led light bars?

If not, how do I modify the circuit to drive my 4 led light bars or is there any other equivalent circuit that I can build so that I can run my project successfully?

Best regards

Fikri

  • Hi Fikri,

Is there any specific requirement for you system such as ripple control, protection and dimmable? I assume your input voltage is 110V.

We have a lot of solutions. But if you could provide more information, we will select the most suitable one for you.

    Regards,

    Victor

  • Hi Victor,

Ripple control and protection is required but not dimmable at this moment.

    My input voltage is 240V.

    Hello Fikri,

Here are two solutions for you…

    1)      Single stage: TPS92314, the off-line primary side sensing controller with PFC. It is 8-Pin SOIC package and easy to implement. The output current ripple is about 40%.

    2)      Dual stage: UCC28810+TPS92511.  This one is low cost compare to other dual stage solutions. You can have high PFC as well as low output ripple current. Although the TPS92511 will be released next week, if you are interested in this solution, I am happy to send you some materials.

    Regards,

    Victor

  • Hello Victor,

    Thanks for the two solutions.

I would love to have the TPS92511 materials for reference and comparison purposes.

    Best regards

  • Hello Fikri,

Could you please send an email to victor.chen@ti.com? I will reply to you with the materials attached.

  • Hello Victor,

I was looking at the single stage solution specification using the TPS92314A19230VEVM (page 3)... The output voltage ( Vout ) is specified as min=18V, typ=20V and max=22V.

The total Forward Voltage of my 4 led light bars connected in series would be 47.2V . Can the driver lights up my led light bars although the output load current (Iout) and the LED light bars forward current are compatible?

    Best regards

    Fikri

  • Hi Fikri,

You are correct that the EVM is for an output load around 22V. For your case, i.e. 48V output load which is totally OK for TPS92314, you can use the design calculator I attached to calculate the component values for your design

  • Hi Victor,

Thanks for sharing the design calculator.

I have a question on using the design calculator as below....

How to key in the number of LEDs in series as the EVM isolated design calculator is limited to 4 until 10 LEDs in series...?

My LED light bars are 4 serial 8 parallel configuration which total up to 16 serial LEDs. I attached the schematic for your reference...

I look forward to your comments...

    Best regards

  • Hi Fikri,

We have made a new version of calculation tool for you. Now the maximum number of LED for isolated schematic was set to 20.

  • Hi Victor,

Thank you very much for your support.

  • Hi Victor,

    How are you?

For an indoor lighting project of my company Heper Moonlight Inc.,
I have bought 5 pcs TPS92314A19230VEVM for reference. I have tested; this is very good and succesful LED driver...

We are planning to produce this LED driver 80k pcs/year.

Now I am designing and I have to finish this project very quickly.

That's why: For TPS92314A19230VEVM, I need Altium, Orcad or Eagle files for schematic and especially for PCB.
(at least PCB gerber fabrication outputs files) ...

Can you help me ASAP, please?

Yours sincerely. Have a nice day.

  • Dear Victor,

We are currently using TPS9220 for LED Drivers of 45W ( 72V, 0.62A). The operating range is 90V to 265V AC.

Please let us know can we use the same for 65W Output ( 90V, 0.72A). If required we can compromise on Ac Input Voltage range. The normal operating voltage is 230V.
