Looking for LED Driver for Backlight

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS92513

Hi all.

I am looking for the LED Driver for backlight.
The topology of TI's LED Drivers are only boost.

If you know the following LED Driver for backlight, please tell me it.

Parallel 5LEDs
Vin=12V~24V,
Vout=9.6V(Buck)
Iout=140mA
Brightness adjustable

Best Regards,

  • TI has a number of buck LED drivers you can check out, however they are not multi-channel so if the LEDs aren't really well matched and you need parallel strings a ballast resistor may be required in each string, or a converter for each string if current matching is critical. In either case look at the LM340x line of buck regulators or the TPS92513. Another option would be to series all the LEDs and use a boost (or buck-boost depending on the output voltage).
  • Hi Clinton san.

    Thank you for the reply.

    I understood that TPS92513 isn't the parallel.
    Is LM3432 only boost?
    If the device is buck, my customer can use this device.

  • Unfortunately I am not really familiar with the backlighting portfolio, so the web is probably your best resource. I'm pretty sure they have a dedicated page at ti.com. But from what I understand they are generally boost converters, so I was just trying to give you buck options. They may have a multi-channel buck, but not one I am aware of. I know all the bucks we have in general SSL are single channel. But some people will parallel LEDs with them if they are closely matched, or they will add some ballast resistors.
