sir,

for my new project i am using drv8834 for driving stepper motor. in the motor specification it is given that 1 ampere per coil. in my project i have 5 stepper motor connected to five drv8834 . each stepper motor driver drv8834 is connected to arduino uno. please help me to choose a dc power source which can give supply to five drv8834 so that the drivers can drive the 5 stepper motor at a time

Hi Sudhee,

Your post is being moved to the Power Forum.

Based on your description, you will need a minimum of 10A to drive the stepper (1A x 2 coils x 5 motors).

So 1 A per coil = 10 A for 5 drivers. What is your input voltage? Do you want to drive the DRV8834 with 5 V?

sir, thanks for the replay. i am using stepper motor whose current rating is 1 ampere per coil and whose voltage rating is 5.9 volt. is this means that i should give 5.9v and 10 ampere power sourse to drive 5 stepper motor using drv8834

. for my sanyo stepper motor, rated current is 1 ampere per coil and rated voltage is 5.9v.

sir my doubt is ......... what should be the voltage and current specification of a dc source to drive 5 stepper motor at a time.(i am using 5 drv8834,)

Each DRV8834 has 2 coils. 5 x 2 x 1A = 10 A at 5.9 V. You will need a 5.9 V source capable of supplying 10 A. If you have some other higher voltage available you can buck that voltage down to 5.9 V with a suitable buck converter.

Is it part of another software package?

The DRV8834 is just a driver. there is no computer interface to it. You will have to choose a controller that is compatible with your software. If you look here you will find technical documentation and selection guides to assist you:

ok sir, i am using arduino uno as controller controller. for many steppr motor applications i had found many examples in google. some of the are using AccelStepper.h to controll stepper motor............. i am feeling very happy to c your intrest to support me, thanku so much sir.

Hi Sudhee,

The documentation of the accelstepper library states that support was added for stepper drivers(with Step and Direction inputs). The DRV8834 fits this, so it should work.

sir, in the specification of my motor it is given that each phase draws 1 ampere at 5.9 volt. (voltage rating is 5.9v) . ie for driving 5 similar stepper motor, i should use a dc sourse having voltage 5.9v and current 10 ampere ????????

(Number of coils / motor)*(Amps / coil) * (number of motors) = total Amps required.

voltage rating of one motor is 5.9v....... my doubt is .. is 5.9 volt enough to run 5 motors.?

Really this is the non-isolated dc/dc converter forum. We can help you with you dc/dc supply, but if you need help with your motor circuits there may be a better place to post. You should know your input source voltage, required output voltage and required current. Then we can help you choose the correct dc/dc converter.

Hi Sudhee,

To generate 5.9V, you will need a source that is usually higher voltage than that.

Typically that is either an AC source that is bucked to the desired voltage, or a DC source such as a battery that again is bucked to the desired voltage.

What is the starting voltage for the system? Is it 120VAC or 240VAC, or ??VDC.

Ultimately, you will need a 5.9VDC source that can supply 10A continuous to drive 5 motors simultaneously. You may also need additional regulators to provide the proper voltages to other circuits on the boards.
