TPS4306x : Please tell us how to use WEBENCH and Excel tool.

Hi Kato,

The possible reason that Webench can not create your design is that it can not find suitable FET, or the calculated temperature is above the device SPEC.

I think you can refer to the reference design on datasheet and EVM user guide to create your design.

Webench is notorious for not being able to find FETs

It is not an error to run by Excel tool.
And, specs of recommended FET is not output.
Please tell us how to use Excel tool.

Hi Kato,

The excel tool allows user to input some basic information and then do related calculation.
Can you spend some time on the excel tool first? We can support if you have particular questions on the excel file.

Excel tool does not output an error if we enter a value that exceeds the limit.
Thus, it can not determine whether feasible.

And,
I believe that it is necessary to select a FET in the Excel tool.
But, specs of recommended FET is not output.
Please tell us how to select the FET using the Excel tool

The Excel tool helps to calculate the FET power loss. It is not able to select FET directly.

Please select the FET based on voltage rating, power loss, efficiency targe.

There is also some application information on how to select FET on controller datasheet page 24-25.

Hi Kato,

 WEBENCH currently outputs only those designs to the user for which it is able to find an appropriate FET from its database which will meet design requirements in addition to maintaining FET temp below its max recommended.

 Now coming to your queries( I am testing it for ambient of 30 C)

 We have updated some portions in our design which will be help  to create the designs for some of your cases(by the end of this week when it is released)

Meanwhile till then, just drop me a mail at sahilg@ti.com and I will share the designs with you.

 Case 1

   Vin : 9.6 to 12.6V

   Vout : 24V

   Iout : 10A

TPS43060 : Circuit Calculator can't create design

        Sahil: Now you will be able to create the design for this (by the end of this week). This was happening because originally we did not support designs where the sense resistors required high power handling capacity and came out to be Custom Components.

        We are supporting those designs now .Only thing is you might require to just parallel those resistors further with equivalent WEBENCH proposed resistor/power value while testing on board.

       

TPS43061 : Can't find suitable FET for the design

        Sahil : This is a “FET unable to find” issue of what I mentioned earlier. For now we are not displaying these designs on WEBENCH. So this will still not be supported

 

Case 2

   Vin : 12.8 to 16.8V

   Vout : 24V

   Iout : 10A

TPS43060 : Circuit Calculator can't create design

        Sahil: FET issue.

        

TPS43061 : Current exceeds limit

        Sahil: This error information needs to be more detailed, can create confusion. This too was happening because of sense resistors power ratings. We have updated it.

        And now you will be able to create the WEBENCH design for this condition with TPS43061.(by the EOW)

 

Case 3

   Vin : 16 to 21V

   Vout : 24V

   Iout : 20A

TPS43060 : Circuit Calculator can't create design.

        Sahil: This will be created now( EOW),

       

 TPS43061 : Can't find suitable FET for the design

        Sahil: FET issue, not supported right now

Hi Kato,

Just wanted to let you know, the WEBENCH release is done. You will now be able to see the designs getting created for some conditions for the cases I mentioned above.
