TPS51220A/Shoot through issue

Hi,

Could you give me some advice on factors of shoot-through?

Rarely shoot-through occurs in the circuit of the customer.
Customer is considered to be not the cause device.
Because the device has a dead time.

Customers want to know why shoot-through happens.
Please advice me about factors and parts that cause shoot-through.

Best regards,

Yusuke/Japan Disty

  • Hi Yusuke-san,

Generally, chip will detect the Vgs level and make a delay time(which is dead time showed in DS) to decide when to turn on High-sde after low-side turns off or when to turn on low-side mosfet after high-side mos turn off.

But as we know, the dead-time has a variation based on different mosfet, related with Mosfet ton/toff

and also customer need care about the bounce when Low-side mosfet turns-off and high-side mosfet turns on, the bounce is caused by parastic capacitor of Low side mosfet when SW ramp-up fast.
