Dear E2E,

Our customer already fixed design of TPS53314 with 80.6k Rtrip since 2 years ago. it is already over Vtrip,max=0.6V and we got OCP is higher than 20A.

However, as i know, there are no clamp circuit inside to protect wrong Vtrip setting. If so, what protection mechanism will be enabled to protect MOSFET before trigger OCP even broken MOSFET?

what is max rating of internal mosfet?

Let me see if we have that data. Typically we design for 2 times the rated current, 12 to 15 A. I'll get back to you soon.

Jason,

There are no other direct protections other than Over Temperature Protection at Tj nominal of 145 C.

I don’t expect the FET to fail at 20A, but the thermal will be a challenge in this case. Let me know if you need further assistance.

I have another question about the design.

Accoding to the Tps53314 spec, the max of Vtrip is 0.8V. After the calculation, the max of OCP is about 13A.

However, we actually measure the protection current that is about 20A.

Why the two values are huge different?

Can you post your Rtrip and the values you used to calculate 13 A in the equation?
