TPS650864: Pin setting when BUCK 6 and VTT is not used

Part Number: TPS650864
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CSD85301Q2,

 Hello guys,

One of our customers is considering to use PMIC, TPS65086470 for Artix-7.

Then they want to know what the following pins setting should be set to because they don't need BUCK6 and VTT in their system case.

So could you please tell me the correct pin setting of the following pins for no BUCK6 and VTT using?

   39(DRVL6)         OPEN?
 40(PGNDSNS6) GND?
 41(BOOT6)        OPEN?
 42(SW6)            OPEN?
 43(DRVH6)        OPEN?
 44(FBOUT6)      OPEN?
 45(ILIM6)           OPEN?
 46(PVINVTT)     GND?
 47(VTT)             Connected to No.48(VTTFB)
 48(VTTFB)       Connected to No.47(VTT)

 Your reply would be appreciated.

 Best regards,

 Kazuya Nakai.

  • Hi Nakai-san,

BUCK6 will turn on if CTL2 = '1' for this OTP. Additionally, it's power fault is not masked. As a result, if BUCK6 is not connected then it will trigger emergency shutdown after 10 ms from enable (CTL2). If an alternate supply for 1.5V or 1.35V is available, it could be connected to FBVOUT6 to trick the device into thinking power good is met, but that is not recommended. Small FETs like the CSD85301Q2 can be used if high current is not needed. If I2C is available prior to CTL2 being set high, BUCK6 can be disabled by I2C.

VTT LDO can be disabled by setting CTL3 = '0'. In this case, VTT should be floated and PVINVTT and VTTFB should be shorted to GND.

  • Hi Kevin,
    Thank you for your reply.
    Could I ask you again?
    1. If the customer can write the bit 0 of BUCK6CTRL register before CTRL2 goes high, can BUCK6 be turned off without any error?
    2. In No.1 case, are the following pins set correct?
    39(DRVL6) OPEN?
     40(PGNDSNS6) GND?
     41(BOOT6) OPEN?
     42(SW6) OPEN?
     43(DRVH6) OPEN?
     44(FBOUT6) OPEN?
     45(ILIM6) OPEN?

Thank you again and best regards,
    Kazuya Nakai.
  • Hi Nakai-san,

You are correct, as long as 0 is written to BUCK6_DIS before CTL2 goes high, it does not need to be connected.

SW6, PGNDSNS6, ILIM6, and FBVOUT6 should be GND; the rest floating as described.

You can find all pins in the TPS65086x Schematic checklist here: www.ti.com/.../slva734

  • Hi Kevin,

    Thank you for you reply.

Could I ask you one more question?

    TPS650864 has a OTP block.
Can the OTP data be changed by customer side?
Or is the data changing impossible because it is one time PROM?

Thank you again and best regards,
    Kazuya Nakai.
  • Hi Nakai-san,

Factory programmed one time programmable (OTP) banks cannot be changed customer side as they are set factory side.

  • Kevin,
    Thank you!

    Best regards,
    Kazuya Nakai.
  • Hi Kevin,
Could I ask you a few questions because I got the questions from the customer?

Q1. Can BUCK1 output voltage be not set to 3.3V in case of TPS65086470?

Q2. Can BUCK1 output voltage be set to 3.3V if the customer use TPS650860?

    Thank you and best regards,
    Kazuya Nakai.
  • Nakai-san,

Correct on both accounts, BUCK1 step size is 10 mV for TPS65086470 so max Vout is 1.67V while it is 25 mV for TPS650860 so max Vout is 3.575 V.
