TPS65930 and non-rechargeable coin cell protection

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65930

Hello, my question is regarding a non-rechargeable lithium coin cell used as the backup battery for the TPS65930. My product is currently undergoing IEC 60601 testing and the examiners have indicated that there should be a diode between the coin cell and the TPS65930 device to prevent current flowing back in to the battery.

I have no problem adding a schottky diode, but I wondered if there some features of the TPS65930 that deem this unnecessary, and save me from updating the circuit board, again.

Thank you.

  • Hi, the backup battery charger is disabled by default and require a SW write to turn it on. So there should not be any back current going inside the backup battery. But since a write to this bit is not protected by precaution I'd suggest placing the diode on PCB to prevent any issue.

    Best regards, Alain.
